Our History
The New River Theatre Guild, established in 2014, embarked on its journey to bring live theatrical productions to Floyd, Virginia, and the New River Valley. The inaugural production, Play On! by Rich Abbot, was a unique script that delved into the challenges faced by a theatre company attempting to stage a local playwright's work, with all the potential mishaps. This engaging production was hosted at the June Bug Center's Black Box theater and was met with great acclaim.
Following the success of our first production, the NRTG became a critical program at the June Bug Center, solidifying our commitment to the local arts scene. A dedicated board of directors was invited to represent our growing theatre company. We have fostered partnerships with Floyd County High School and Radford High School, pooling resources and offering students unique opportunities in directing and acting. Additionally, we host two theatre afterschool programs at The June Bug Center every Thursday, furthering our commitment to community engagement.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, the NRTG collaborates with the June Bug Center for Arts & Education to offer various acting classes. These classes cater to adults and children, providing a platform for individuals of all ages to explore and develop their acting skills.
